Entries in the records that were questionable were identified with a comment
explaining the reason for the doubt about the item. After the completion of the
engagement, Rhonda McClendon sent a copy of the questionable entries to each of
the defendants, and asked for their comments or corrections. None of the defendants
chose to respond in writing, as requested.
8.1.8
The compiled report was also provided to the Office of the District Attorney of
the Coweta Judicial Circuit. There have been changes made in this report in response to
field interviews and other information provided to Rhonda McClendon. Undoubtedly,
there will be additional acts of theft uncovered as the investigation of this matter
continues.
8.2 The First Period, October 18, 1995 through October 31, 1996
8.2.1.
The annual return filed by Mark Andrew Gomez with the Probate Court of
Coweta County contains several misstatements that can be classified as errors. This
return shows that he received total assets of $140,008.22 from Donna Cunningham
Thompson, the former guardian of Gary Wayne Thompson.
8.2.2.
This amount is obviously incorrect, as the total assets actually turned over
consisted of (1) $993.03 in the checking account, and (2) $138,378.15 in the Edward
